Epiblogger has been open to the public for 16 days and it has been an interesting 16 days. We wanted Epiblogger to make a splash and start getting readers quickly but being a new blog with a very small promotions budget we were not quite sure how to accomplish this. During the time that we were still working on Epiblogger and it was closed to the world Entrecard started up. I took a look at it and signed up with my webmaster blog to see how it worked and if it would help us here at Epiblogger.
I am happy to say that Entrecard has been a good addition to Epiblogger. We opened the doors on January 1st, and added Entrecard on January 7th. The traffic from Entrecard has been steady, averaging 18 visits per day. It has not been a flood of traffic but there has been spinoffs from using Entrecard. The most noticeable benefits has been Entrecard readers submitting content from Epiblogger to social media websites.
The 5 WordPress Security Essentials post from January 9 was submitted to StumbleUpon and has been sending Epiblogger a steady stream of visitors since. The post was also submitted to Sphinn by an Entrecard user and has been able to gather 10 Sphinns so far.
For established blogs I can see why they dislike having Entrecard on their blogs. They don’t need to do the promotion that new blogs need to do to gain some traction in the blogosphere. Entrecard gives new blogs an opportunity to get their blog out there in front of others that can lead to being picked up by other social media. Entrecard also gives new blogs the chance to get some advertising space on some of the more popular blogs at a cost that they can afford. Whether those sites are paid to run the widget or not does not concern me. The opportunity to have an ad on Problogger for a day could lead to more readers and social media attention.
Overall Entrecard has been a welcomed widget on Epiblogger. The traffic has been welcome and has lead to other social media attention. Entrecard is also enabling Epiblogger the opportunity to get our card in front of other readers on Problogger and John Chow at a cost that we can afford. If you have a new blog I would recommend giving Entrecard a try. It could help your blog to go from obscurity to popularity.
P.S. Look for our card on Problogger on January 23rd and John Chow on January 25th.
